Wikimedia Foundation
Role: Lead content design and project management
For many years, the Wikimedia Foundation flagship website was, itself, a wiki: the same editable interface that's present on every Wikipedia page. This was great if you were a Wikipedia power user, but difficult to navigate for other users.
In 2018, the Foundation decided to redesign their website based on the work we did during our audience research project. I managed and led content and editorial strategy for the website redesign, managing more than 40 internal and external stakeholders through a complex editorial process involving translation into seven languages.
Carolina Population Center
Role: Content strategy and design, UX, user interviews and testing
For more than five decades, the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been the home of interdisciplinary researchers who study population change and impact across the lifespan. The Center houses a number of research projects, ranging from the largest longitudinal dataset related to adolescent health to Carolina Demography, a non-partisan group of demographers providing data for leaders across North Carolina. Over the years, researchers created their own websites for these projects - resulting in a mishmash of brands, styles, and designs.
I led a team of developers, designers, and subject-matter experts to create both a flagship website for the Center, as well as a template for Center projects to use. This was a project unique for its scale: the previous website had thousands of pages of content, much of which was not findable or approachable. We streamlined the sitemap and created a separate database for projects and people which makes it much easier for faculty members to update their content. I also worked with UNC Creative to develop branding and logo for each entity, ensuring a cohesive look and feel between the Center and its many affiliated projects.
Social and Behavioral Sciences Team (SBST)
Role: Content strategy and design
The Social and Behavioral Sciences Team (SBST) was established by President Obama to use behavioral economics and psychology to improve federal programs. SBST completed a series of pilot projects, including increasing service-member participation in employee retirement plans and reducing the number of students who are accepted to college but "melt" away during the summer.
I worked with the SBST team on a content strategy and then designed a website using the Federalist platform to showcase their work and promote their annual report.
